My name’s Al. I was born in a small seaside village in Suffolk UK in 1963.
I am lead singer and bass player in the Punk Oi band L.O.A.D
I am also a hard working family man, proud dad to three sons, and grandad to two little terrors, and I love spending time with them.
I live life to its fullest no matter what I do. I like adventure in all of its forms.
1 Name – Al Tiffen
2 Profession – Maintenance guy at a 200yr old manor house
3 What were you like as a teenager? – As a teenager I was quite literally feral. My mum and dad split when we were young and my mum remarried, this brought myself and my brothers a lot closer. While my mum settled into a new marriage and had two more children with my stepdad (my sisters), my brothers and I ran amok on the beach, in the fields ,rivers and alleyways of the area. I got into trouble a few times and was in front of the police a couple of times but I soon grew out of it. But I was growing a taste for adventure, so I joined the Royal Navy at 17 and sailed the world for ten years , got plenty of adventure. lol.
4 How have you changed since then? – I used to worry about everything go through the ‘what if things go wrong’ scenarios and really waste literally days. I used to worry if people liked me or would accept me. Nowadays I know that is all wasted time, wasted thought, and I am happy with who I am. Not bothered about what people think of me and don’t waste time. Just go for it, confidence is high.
5 What do you like doing in your free time? – Well, always loved live music. Always had musical ambition and some ability so I’ve played in bands for the last thirty five years, some with relative success some with none lol. Love family time, love travelling, like a nice pint of beer in the pub with my mates.
6 How long have you known your oldest friend? – My oldest friend is Helen, we went to middle school together. We have known each other since we were 10, also her husband Adrian. They were school sweethearts and have been my best friends most of my life .
7 Good things about getting older – Confidence, worldly wise, see the good and bad in people quicker (see through the veneer), financially comfortable, less worried about the bullshit, lots of pluses, more experience to bring to the table.
8 Most difficult thing about getting older – The most difficult thing about being older for me is physically. I have done a lot of physical jobs and sports like rugby over the years and my knees tell me this, aching after standing watching bands for hours … now is the time to have a sit down lol.
9 Advice, or words of wisdom, for the young ‘uns about becoming old and wrinkly – My advice to young uns is this – Seize the day! Don’t waste time always go for it. Time goes so fast as you get older, so use your fear of things to give you the strength to go forward… Never Put Things Off, enjoy life, love people, and most of all have fun.
